09 Jun TCL Podcast Ep. 21 – Damon Kelly – Olympic Weightlifting
Damon Kelly joined us the week after the Olympic qualifiers in Fiji. We talk all things weight lifting from qualifying spots, rules, competing for the Country, and gaining strength and flexibility for the sport.
Damon is a 2 times Olympic games and 3 times Commonwealth Games Competitor in Weightlifting. Taking out bronze, silver and gold over the course of his Commonwealth games experiences.
We cover over Damo’s recent experience at the Olympic qualifiers. Damo had a disappointing end to his season, with his final clean and jerk that he needed to make to qualify and did complete the lift, however wasn’t let through as the judges called a press out on the movement.
Damo shows an incredible amount of passion for the growth and introduction to the younger generations for the sport. Damo volunteers some coaching hours at St Laurence’s College. This is where Damo went to school and where his Weightlifting journey all started. He says he’s just happy to pay it forward, to return the favour for how he was looked after as a teen.
Damo gives his tips for CrossFitters, how and where to get started on Olympic lifting along with a heap of other knowledge bombs.
